Kindness Company - Social Change Collective

ABOUT KINDNESS COMPANY

Kindness Company is a social change collective that works with individuals, communities, and organisations to build the capacity to live well, age well, and die well.

Our philosophy is grounded in First Nations and Eastern understandings of the cyclical nature of life: birth, life, death, and the deep connection between mind, body, and spirit. We believe these are not separate things. They are one continuous thread.

We were founded on a simple observation: as a society, we have largely outsourced the responsibility of caring for our elders, and we have lost much of our ability to sit with grief. Kindness Company exists to restore both.

We do this through project development and implementation, community co-design, workforce capacity building, specialist research and consultation, arts-based healing, end of life planning, and direct care. We work at every scale, from a single person sitting with a terminal diagnosis, to complex multi-year community projects that shift how entire systems respond to trauma, grief, and death.

OUR WORK, IN PRACTICE

Kindness Company has led and contributed to some of Australia's most significant community-led projects and specialist consultancies at the intersection of cultural safety, trauma, health, grief, and end of life care.

A selection is below.

KBHAC End of Life Dillybag

Working alongside Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation, we co-designed a complete suite of end of life planning and care tools for Stolen Generations survivors and their families, guided throughout by Uncles sharing their own wishes.

The More I talk The Stronger I get

A complex truth telling Survivor, partner and descendent community-led research project with NCACSA visioned by Uncles of KBHAC to break cycles of childhood sexual abuse and develop a survivor led healing model.

Justice Reinvestment: KBHAC, Coota Girls and Children Bomaderry

Complex project management and community engagement supporting the KBHAC, Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation and Children of Bomaderry Aboriginal Corporation. One of the first Survivor led truth telling projects to create a survivor owned and managed data set to demonstrate the ongoing impacts of the Stolen Generations and community led solutions to multigenerational healing.

Compassionate Community Model of Care, Gold Coast

Coordinating the development of a community-led, culturally informed compassionate community model on the Gold Coast, building local capacity to support people at end of life outside of clinical settings.

Conversations That Carry Hope, ECCQ

A four-session training program co-designed with the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland's Love Health Program, building the capacity of bicultural community health workers to navigate end of life and palliative care conversations with CALD communities.

Liver Foundation National Needs Assessment

Specialist consultant and advisor to the Liver Foundation on a national needs assessment with First Nations and multicultural communities, informing the development of a national telehealth service and providing ongoing specialist community and stakeholder engagement advice.

NSW Cancer Plan Renewal

Advisor on the renewal of the NSW Cancer Plan, bringing a culturally diverse community lens to the planning process.

Carbon Creative: Communication and Campaign Research

Specialist researcher for Carbon Creative over four-plus years, undertaking communication and campaign research, testing, and evaluation across state and national campaigns including the Territories Redress Scheme, the Anti-Vaping Campaign, Smoking in Pregnancy, and the rebrand of the Australian Human Rights Commission.

'A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions,
and the roots spring up and make new trees.
The greatest work that kindness does to others is that
it makes them kind themselves.'

READ OUR CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

'My brother died two months ago. The last time I saw Harp I felt deep sadness. She told me about the deep rest sessions she runs and I had one today. I have been feeling so much anger and that lifted; my body feels different, better. I haven't felt like this for months'

— DONNA

'Words can't describe the scaredness of today.... your playing was next level. It truly gave me the strength to be strong and take my mind off what was actually happening. In my 10 years of nursing it's the most precious experience I've ever had.'

— HOPEWELL HOSPICE

“Harp's compassionate and professional guidance has given me acceptance, knowledge and strength as I face one of the most difficult challenges
of my life.”

— JULIE

‘DEATH, DYING, AND GRIEVING TODAY HAVE BECOME UNBALANCED. Health care is now the context in which many encounter death, and as families and communities have been pushed to the margins, their familiarity and confidence in supporting death, dying, and grieving has diminished. Relationships and networks are being replaced by professionals and protocols.’
